Modeling the Evolution of Construction Solutions in Residential Buildings’ Thermal Comfort

نویسندگان

چکیده

The evolution of the construction sector over years has been marked by replacement high thermal inertia mass constructions increasingly lighter solutions that are subject to greater fluctuations and, consequently, discomfort. To minimize these effects, energy demanding space conditioning technologies implemented, contributing significantly sector’s share global consumption. Enhanced constructive involving phase-change materials have developed respond loss, influencing buildings’ and performance. This work aims model last decades understand what extent characteristics influence occupants’ comfort. For this purpose, typical enhanced representing distinct periods were simulated using EnergyPlus® software through its graphical interface DesignBuilder® comfort different was evaluated adaptive for EN16798-1. main results reveal more restraining regulatory requirements indeed mitigating discomfort situations. However, overheating phenomena can rise, creating worrying consequences in short-medium term. Thus, countries with mild climates such as Portugal, must pay special attention which may be aggravated climate change.

Adaptive thermal comfort and sustainable thermal standards for buildings

The origin and development of the adaptive approach to thermal comfort is explained. A number of the developments in the application of the theory are considered and the origin of the differences between adaptive thermal comfort and the ‘rational’ indices is explored. The application of the adaptive approach to thermal comfort standards is considered and recommendations made as to the best comf...
